ROC WMS (formerly Robocom WMS)

ROC WMS is a warehouse management system for manufacturers and distributors from CAI Software. It was first developed as Robocom WMS by Robocom Corporation, a supply chain software vendor based in Farmingdale, New York.

The system is used in several industries, including food and beverage, manufacturing, 3PL, eCommerce fulfillment and publishing distribution. ROC WMS aims for near 100% inventory accuracy. This covers the quantity on hand for each item in the warehouse and the quantity of each item in each location for each lot or pallet.

Core functions

ROC WMS runs on mobile wireless terminals and barcode scanners, so warehouse tasks are directed without paper. Each function is aimed at a particular type of warehouse operation and can be configured to fit different workflows. The main modules are:

• Receiving: Handling for purchase orders, ASNs, production receipts and returns, plus crossdocking, trailer receiving, cycle counts and audits.
• Inventory management: Lot, expiration date and serial number control; standard and variable weight items; quarantine and block stock; automatic refill of forward pick locations.
• Location and space management: Configurable rules for putaway and storage, to make better use of available space.
• Order management: Pick planning with shortage detection, order pooling, discrete and full pallet picking, task interleaving, load planning to cut freight costs, and printing of shipping documents and labels.
• Yard management: Trailer visibility, appointment scheduling, and staging and shipping workflows for inbound and outbound loads.
• Quality control: Inspection of quarantined stock, with options to release it or scrap it.

About Robocom WMS' acquisition and transition to ROC WMS

CAI Software bought Robocom in June 2020. Robocom first ran as a CAI Software subsidiary, and the product was later renamed ROC WMS.

It's now in the CAI Software portfolio next to industry ERP, MES and EDI products, including ShopVue MES, Food Connex, xTuple and PlanetTogether.

Before the deal, Robocom had grown partly through acquisitions. It made five acquisitions to widen its product range and customer base. IT Capital had backed it since 2005. CAI Software bought it to extend its ERP and MES offering into warehouse execution, so manufacturers and distributors can get production, planning and warehouse systems from one vendor. The financial terms were not disclosed.

Robocom's main functions carried over into ROC WMS. The main changes are the brand and the parent company.
