Indigo WMS is a warehouse management system from Indigo Software Limited, a company based in Durham, United Kingdom. Indigo Software was founded in 1980 and was acquired by Aptean in November 2024.

The system tracks stock from the moment it arrives at a site until it ships to a customer, covering receiving, putaway, replenishment, picking, packing, loading, and despatch. It runs alongside an existing ERP, transport management, or supply chain planning system instead of replacing it.

Core features

  • Inbound and returns: Indigo WMS builds expected receipts from supplier messages and can receive stock by scanning SSCCs. If suppliers cannot send ASNs, they can complete a spreadsheet that the system imports. A drag-and-drop goods-in diary lets staff view, add, amend, block, cancel, and assign dock bays to delivery bookings. The system also processes returns and can freeze stock on receipt, then release it with an audit trail.
  • Putaway, replenishment, and inventory accuracy: Putaway rules can cascade, helping a food warehouse keep allergens away from other products, and the system logs any departure from the original instruction. Each item has replenishment rules, including minimum trigger levels, and wave generation can create tasks from current and pending demand. Staff can also start replenishment by hand. Cycle counting supports ABC classification, allowing a site to count stock continuously instead of pausing for full stock takes.
  • Picking and despatch: Strategies include customer consolidation, wave release, priority changes during picking, just-in-time line picking for batch-manufactured products, and topping off part-picked pallets as stock arrives. Staff can merge, delete, or consolidate pallets, and must confirm each pallet is on the vehicle. Outbound tools include courier interfaces for CSV, XML, and TXT files, SSCC labelling, and advance shipping notices.
  • Voice picking: Voice and handheld radio data terminal (RDT) operators can work in the same warehouse. The module runs on an existing 802.11 network, each user trains the system to their own voice, and it needs no interface to a separate voice product.
  • Reporting and dashboards: Efficiency reporting covers work in progress and completed work, and some transaction data is pre-cubed for use with external analytics tools. The Nitro dashboard application lets customers design their own dashboards, show them on warehouse display screens, desktop computers, and phones, and add custom fields and tables.
