Rather than a full WMS, Cloud Inventory Platform sits between your ERP and your warehouse floor. Rather than replacing your system of record, it adds a mobile-first execution layer on top of it.
It's for operations teams that need tighter inventory discipline but can't justify a WMS implementation.
Cloud Inventory Platform is popular among organisations that:
- Have an ERP but struggle with inventory accuracy
- Have inventory spread across multiple locations, including trucks, job sites, yards, or remote facilities
- Rely on mobile workers who need to scan, count, and move stock without being desk-bound
- Want cycle counting and receiving workflows that update the ERP in real time, not at end of day
It's less suited to those with more complex WMS requirements like slotting, cartonisation, labour management, or multi-client 3PL functionality, where a dedicated WMS would be the more appropriate choice.
Transition from Data Systems International
The product has been around in one form or another for decades. Cloud Inventory was formerly Data Systems International (DSI), a Kansas City-based company with deep roots in supply chain mobility.
In November 2025, ERP software company Nextworld acquired Cloud Inventory, positioning the product as part of a broader suite that combines Nextworld's no-code ERP platform with Cloud Inventory's warehouse, manufacturing and field inventory capabilities.
Core offerings
Cloud Inventory splits into three distinct apps, each with a different operational context:
- Warehouse Operations handles the inbound and outbound flow within a facility: receiving, putaway, pick and pack, cycle counting, and quality inspection workflows. Rather than directing every movement, it enforces scan discipline at key transaction points, so stock levels in your ERP stay accurate without relying on manual data entry.
- Manufacturing Materials focuses on the shop floor: tracking raw materials, work-in-progress, and finished goods as they move through production. Teams use it to manage material issuance, track lot and serial numbers, and keep production inventory aligned with what the ERP shows.
- Field Inventory extends beyond the building. Field engineers, service technicians and delivery teams can manage stock on vehicles, at job sites, or in remote yards using the same mobile interface.
It integrates with any ERP via RESTful API. This matters if your company runs Oracle, SAP, Microsoft Dynamics 365, or something less common. You're not locked into a vendor pairing, and you don't need proprietary middleware.
